The California Council of the Blind Presents Canes Across California

CCB’s Mission:

To increase the independence, security, equality of opportunity, and quality of life for all Californians who are blind or have low vision.

CANES stands for Collaboration through Advocacy, Networking, Engagement and Service. It’s a social media driven resource development and community awareness campaign.

Canes Across California goes from August 15 to October 15 to increase awareness of California’s White Cane Law which protects the rights of blind people to travel safely and independently.

PURPOSE

To raise awareness, raise activity levels, and raise resources for the California Council of the Blind.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

Over the last 20 years, the CCB has been responsible for:
awarding over 1/4 million dollars in scholarships to blind students
providing over $300,000 in crisis support to people in need
providing over 25,000 referrals to community resources.

In 2016 alone CCB members contributed 40,409 volunteer hours which is equivalent to $952,036 in in-kind services.
